Political Science Department Annual Lecture: Stabilizing Provincial Debt: A Complex Systems Approach

Provincial debts are unsustainable, and the causes are deeply rooted in Canada’s fiscal federal system. This presentation will discuss the risks and vulnerabilities this presents in the context of an increasingly volatile and uncertain global financial environment. It will also talk about possibilities for reforming Canada’s fiscal federal structures from a complex systems perspective.
Speaker: Dr. Kyle Hanniman is an Associate Professor of Political Studies and Director of the Institute of Intergovernmental Relations at Queen’s University. His research interests include Canadian, comparative, and fiscal federalism and the political economy of fiscal and monetary policy, with a particular emphasis on the politics of subnational borrowing and central banks. He holds an MA and PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a BA from St. 蜜桃視頻_蜜桃視頻APP_蜜桃視頻官网. He worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto’s Institute on Municipal Finance and Governance. He has held visiting positions at the European University Institute and the Australian National University’s School of Politics and International Relations.
